Eldridge Cleaver was one of the most widely known chairmen of the party, with his legacy spreading from a presidential candidacy in 1968 to a notorious ambush on Oakland police officers that same year. Cleaver was eventually expelled from the party in 1971 over conflicts with Newton.
Cleaver is proably most well known for being a presdential candidate in 1968 as well as his notorious ambush on Oakland police officers that same year. Cleaver and the other eight panthers had to objectivs in this action, free Huey Newton and kill a few cops. By 1971 Eldridge Cleaver was kicked out of the Black Panther Party while he hid out in Algeria from arrest charges due to crimes he was suspected of while part of the party. |
